Maintenance Advice

What is UV Lacquered?

UV (or ultraviolet-cured) lacquered finish means this type of engineered flooring uses UV-Curable Lacquers then exposed to high-capacity UV lights to instantly harden this protection layer. Although it has a similar appearance to lacquered finish, it comes with the additional benefit of UV light protection.

Some Tips – Your “Plan A”

  1. Keep dirt outside. Invest in a nice doormat that traps sand and dirt from being introduced into your home. Sand can act like sandpaper and grind on your wood floor when you walk around. They can also deposit into brushed marks and joints which will make the cleaning process harder.
  2. Use protective pads on your furniture. A good tip to prevent scratch marks on your wood floor is to use protective pads on your furniture. You may think furniture that doesn’t move will not require any measures, but the fact is, every time we sit down, our sofa makes some movement and over time this might damage the floor finish.
  3. Quickly mop up spills & don’t use normal household cleaner. Whilst all finishes afford your flooring some water resistance, wood flooring is not waterproof. It’s tempting to use a household cleaner to care for your wood floor, but many household cleaners contain chemicals that will harm the finish. So it is better to use the right maintenance products suitable for your floor finish.

Light Maintenance

For day-to-day “dry” care, vacuum regularly with a dusting brush attachment. For “Wet” care, use a mildly damp cloth or mop to wipe the surface. For best results use one of the following.

Refresher

With regular cleaning using the recommended cleaning agent listed above, the lacquered floor will require very little additional maintenance unless it gets damaged. Repairing a scratch or dent in a UV lacquered floor usually requires a professional specialist. As the lacquer acts as a film over the surface of the floor, it may require sanding back the affected area and replacing the lacquer whilst trying to blend it with the existing floor.
